 PLASMA FIBROBLAST PEN FAQ

How is it performed?

A handheld device is used to deliver energy through a metal disposable tip which comes into close contact with the outer most layer of the skin. The energy creates a spark once it comes into contact with the gases (CO2) emitted by the skin layer and delivers an immediate millimeter sized controlled wound. This is repeated hundreds of times in the area of concern and only reaches the outer most layer of your skin which pulls your skin cells closer together. Immediately, the natural healing response is triggered causing overall tightening.  Results therefore begin immediately, and continue to yield results all the way up until 8-12 weeks post treatment. It takes 4 full weeks for collagen production cycle to take place. Clients are impressed with knowing the results get better and better with time.

Does it hurt?

Everyone’s interpretation of pain varies. A topical anesthetic will be applied to help keep you comfortable. Some clients say it feels similar to a dull rubber band snapping whereas others say they can barely feel anything. I have even had some snoring through the procedure!

How long is the downtime?

It really does depend on what one considers as down-time. Some are quite okay with going out in public immediately whereas others may wish to stay home and avoid crowds. It is natural that you will experience swelling the first few days followed by carbon crust (scab) formation to the tiny millimeter “dots” that are placed in the treatment area. These dots cannot be disturbed and must shed naturally on their own. This will usually occur around days 5-7. After that, the skin will appear light pink, but is closed and well on its way to good healing!

How long do I need to avoid the sun?

Anyone with a sunburn or tan must wait a full 8 weeks before treatment to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Tanned skin is damaged skin- we do not want to apply added trauma to your skin during that time. After the treatment, it is extremely important to avoid the sun for the first week while the important healing phase is occurring. This includes sun exposure on all levels- driving in the car, walking to the mailbox, or sitting too close to a window. All of these scenarios must be taken into account- a hat must be worn!  Once the carbon crusts shed off on their own around day 5-7, SPF 60+ must be applied to the area for a minimum of 3 months to avoid hyper-pigmentation. This is because the skin is essentially NEW skin... I tell clients to treat the area like an infant in the sun.

How long do the results last?

The results last similar to that of invasive surgery! Keep in mind, this procedure does not reverse or stop the actual aging process. Treatment will diminish the current concerns of aging and it is up to you to follow good habits to help your continued aging process.

Factors that contribute to aging include smoking, drinking, drug use, stress, certain foods, caffeine, harsh weather, lack of sunscreen, poor skin care, excess sun exposure or tanning bed use, as well as genetics. Some of these factors are controllable, others are not. It is up to you and only you to protect your investment in yourself!
